“I Need a New Boat Trailer for My Sailboat” He Stated

Not long ago, I was at the marina hanging out with a friend and I started talking to an older gentleman (midlife crisis age) and his newest younger wife. “A perfect day for sailing,” I started out and we got to talking. He said he wanted to buy a trailer for his boat so he could travel up the coast in the summer and doing some sailing about 2,000 miles from here.

Of course, we both knew that picking out the right trailer is paramount to keep from damaging your pride and joy. You see, if you own a boat and would like to move it around then chances are you will need a boat trailer, one which is tough, properly sized, has brakes, and proper balancing when your boat is riding on it.

Believe it or not boat insurance claims on the road are nearly as high as mistakes which have led to accidents on the water. Thus, it makes a lot of sense to pay attention when purchasing a boat trailer. So, let’s discuss this issue with some helpful hints and tips;

1. First, decide if you are primarily going to use this boat trailer to take it from the marina to a storage location; or if you are going to use the trailer to take your boat to another recreational spot from time to time? If the later, you’ll want a decent tacking trailer for highway speeds. If not, you’ll simply want a super tough, tank-like platform which can distribute the weight evenly over many months.

2. It makes sense to buy a boat trailer that is over-rated for the weight of your boat, stronger than needed, as this gives you room for errors, which can occur entering or exiting tricky drive-ways, or bumpy roads.

Outdoor Activities in the Lake District

As a land of mountains, lakes and coast, the Lake District area is home to a great variety of outdoor activity centres. Many of them are happy to embrace all levels of experience and age and offer everything from short taster sessions to day-long adventures. Here is my pick of the best. There are several holiday cottages in the lake district which would make an ideal base from which to experience these fabulous activities.

Mountain Biking

Whinlatter Forest Park is the place to go if you’re a committed mountain-biker. The Altura Trail is one of two routes at Whinlatter, and this one is red-graded, 19km long, and described as suitable for experienced riders with good off-road skills and a high level of fitness. If you can take your eyes off the berms, jumps, rock features, skinnies and cork screws, you’ll see fabulous views of Bassenthwaite Lake, Derwentwater, Helvellyn and Skiddaw from your position 500m above Keswick.

The other mountain bike route at Whinlatter Forest Park is the Quercus Trail. This is a blue grade route suitable for moderately experienced riders, with a choice of 3.5 or 7.5km lengths. There are rolling jumps and gradual climbs, and trickier parts that are designed so you can choose them or not depending on your skill level. The route takes you through an oak forest and towering conifer glades.

Bikes can be hired at Whinlatter Forest Park’s on-site Cyclewise centre. If you want to record the experience for dull days and doubters, Cyclewise can also hire out head-cameras for the duration of your trip!

High Wires and Cable-assisted Routes

Do you want to ‘get in touch with your inner Tarzan’? If so, the two Go Ape courses at Whinlatter and Grizedale will be just your thing – have a go on their high-wire tree crossings, zip wires and ‘Tarzan drops’.

Worlds Top Resorts – Necker Island

Not too long ago, Necker Island was considered a drab location with no commercial appeal whatsoever. However, after one of Britain’s most outlandish figures, the multi-billionaire Sir Richard Branson, purchased the property, the little praised getaway in the British Virgin Islands quickly became a mega-popular success.

The resort is operated as a private residence, and all guests have the freedom to explore the entire island and the surrounding scenery. And a staff of 31 works to provide up to 26 guests with around-the-clock service, be it a simple room cleaning or a gourmet meal.

Necker Island is 74-acres, and has a 10-bedroom Balinese villa, along with two 1-bedroom Balinese houses named Bali Hi and Bali Lo. These houses are beautifully designed and boast many wonderful features. Each house has a private swimming pool, open-air lounging areas, outdoor dining areas, and many other state-of-the-art amenities.

Bali Hi is literally built into a cliff, and has a bedroom that hangs over the cliff and offers priceless views of the Caribbean Sea. In the master bathroom of the main house, a large Jacuzzi provides the lucky guest(s) with a much-needed soak. And each of the other 9 bedrooms in the home has their own private bathrooms.

When Sir Richard Branson isn’t entertaining guests like Mariah Carey and Sean “P Diddy” Combs at Necker Island, the private island resort is open to the general public. Guests can rent the island on a daily basis or for a special seven-night “Celebration Week” in September and October. The island attracts a wide range of celebrities and other well-to-do clientele. Featured on VH1, MTV, and HGTV, Necker Island’s popularity is mind blowing.

Tips for Getting The Best Airfare

Remember that airlines will often come out with specials on Tuesday or Wednesday, so you may want to do your homework on those days. Also, if you are in an area that has multiple airports, you may want to check fares from each of them. If possible, be flexible with your travel dates. It’s amazing how prices can change just by a slight change in travel dates.

Check your frequent flier miles too! You may have enough miles to travel for next to nothing or upgrade from a coach ticket to first class. As a general rule, you usually can book mileage tickets eleven months prior to travel.

If you have purchased a ticket and later find that the fare has gone down, contact the airlines for a refund. You won’t always get one, but it never hurts to ask since policies vary by airline. If you have purchased your ticket from a major booking site and not the airline directly, many of them have fare guarantees and will pay you the difference if the flights are exactly the same.

For International flights, always check on foreign “air passes”. They can save you a lot of money. Check with the 3 major airline “alliance” groups for the various types of passes. Oneworld, Skyteam and Star Alliance are the “alliance” groups. Air Passes cannot be purchased online. Deal directly with the airline or your local travel agency. Be sure to cover all the rules and restrictions before purchasing your air pass.

Mt Everest Adventure

High above sea level, towers the Earth’s highest mountain dividing both Nepal and Tibet. This mountain is known as Mt Everest in western culture named after Sir George Everest in 1865, the British surveyor-general of India. In Nepal Mt Everest is known as Sagarmatha meaning the goddess of the sky and in Tibet it is known as Chomolungma meaning the mother goddess of the universe.

Mt Everest is 8,840m high (29,029ft) and is the highest mountain above sea level. Arguably Muana Kea in Hawaii is debated to be the highest mountain at 10,200m (33,464) from its base however it is not considered the highest as it is only 4,205m (13,796 ft) above sea level.

In 1953 the first ascent was made by the courageous Sir Edmund Hillary of New Zealand and other records started shortly after such as the first woman to climb the summit in 1975 by Junko Tabei and then the first solo climb in 1980 by Reinhold Messner.

Mt Everest is one of nature’s most challenging and most gratifying adventures. Once you reach the summit you will literally be standing on top of the world’s highest peaks. There are many safety concerns when considering climbing Mt Everest and your fitness should be a major factor. However even novices can complete the climb but comes at the expense of hiring shirpas to help you reach your goal.

Take a flight into Kathmandu and begin your ascent to the highest point of your life.
